Pokhara – Adventure city of Nepal | Ghandruk Trekking – Trek to view Himalayas

Kaski District is a part of Gandaki Pradesh with Pokhara as its district headquarter. The name of this district is disambiguated from Kaskikot, the ancient Kaski Kingdom. This district is situated at the centroid point of the country. And the altitude ranges from 450m the lowest land to 8091m the highest point in the Himalaya range. The district covers parts of the Annapurna mountain range and the magnificent scene of the mountains can be viewed from most parts of the district.

Pokhara is Nepal’s number 1 adventure city and is regarded as the Jewel of the mid-west and is home to numerous lakes and caves. It is located at the distance of 200 kms away from capital city Kathmandu. The lakes in Pokhara are Phewa lake, Begnas lake, Rupa lake, Gude lake, Neurani lake and Maidi lake among many others. Caves in here are Bat cave, Mahendra cave and Gupteshwor cave. It is also the gateway for trekking to the Annapurna circuit. The peaks can also be closely observed from here include Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna and Manaslu, all of these peaks are more than 8000 meters high. One of the tourist attractions is lakeside, where you can experience the night life of this city. There are lots of pubs, clubs and discos to give you the taste of nightlife here. The newest attraction of the city is paragliding which is done from sarangkot over the famous phewa lake. There are other adventure sports in this place such as canyoning, base diving, kayaking, mountain biking and rock climbing. Begnas lake lies 12 km east at the end of a road that turns north towards Pokhara to Kathmandu highway. Activities like hiking, boating and fishing opportunities can be found here. The world peace pagoda sits atop a hill above phewa lake overlooking the Annapurna mountain which is painted a brilliant white. It was built by Buddhist monk from the Japanese Nipponzan Myohoji organization.

Devi’s fall is another place of attraction which was discovered in 1961. When Daniel and his wife Devi were swimming in the lake and suddenly, she disappeared into the tunnel. Her body was never found and because of this accident it was named after her.
One of the best sight-seeing places in Pokhara is rupakot resort. It is about nearly 1-hour drive from lakeside.  The resort is located at an altitude of 1080 meters from sea level and travelers can observe the panoramic view of Himalayan range as well as three popular lakes Rupa, phewa and begnas.

Sarangkot is very popular among tourists from where they can enjoy the splendid view of Pokhara valley which is located in Kaski district. Also, the magnificent view of the mountains such as Annapurna Massif, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri range and Manaslu can be observed. Sarangkot is only 5km away from Lakeside Pokhara and highest view point at 1592m high for Sunrise and Sunset view over the snowy peaks. Sarangkot can be reached easily by 45 minutes of a car ride to the top from Pokhara and then 45 minutes hike up to the main point. Paragliding can also be done from Sarangkot which is a truly wonderful and fulfilling experience for the adventure seeker.  It is another adventurous activity being carried out in Nepal to amuse the tourists. There are various places suitable for organizing paragliding but Sarangkot is the best among all. Paragliding is at least 30 to 45 minutes flight which would provide an exciting experience that would cherish for rest of the life. It is one of the best ways to view the beautiful city Pokhara and Himalayan panorama.

Pumdikot is the place located above the world peace pagoda. There is a view tower in this place. From here one can enjoy the magnificent view of mountains and beautiful places around Pokhara valley.

Ghandruk trekking route is one of the most visited areas of Annapurna trail because the trek is easy and much romantic walking through the beautiful villages. Ghandruk is also called Gurung village because there is populated of ethnic Gurung people. The highest point is only 2,010 meters (6,600 ft), is located northwest of the lakeside city of Pokhara. It is the best trek for those visitors who want to go for a short trek in the foothills of Annapurna.
